Aphiwat Bualoi Teaches Thai Lawyers Estate Planning in Free Six-Week Class

Chiang Mai, Thailand. From June to July 2026, Aphiwat Bualoi, Managing Partner of Aphiwat Bualoi Law Office, led a six-week online class for lawyers in Thailand. The class, called Estate Planning Hour, met on Zoom once a week and was free to attend.

Estate work in Thailand is growing. More families hold property in more than one country, and more foreigners live and retire in Thailand. Many Thai lawyers have strong litigation skills but less practice with wills, trusts and estate administration. Aphiwat Bualoi created the class to share what he has learned from years of estate practice.

All six sessions are now on the firm’s YouTube channel. The talks are in Thai for a Thai legal audience. For clients, the topics show the questions the firm handles every day.

Week 1. Guardian of a minor’s property, or a trust?

12 June 2026. When a parent wants to leave property to a young child, Thai law offers two main paths. The court can appoint a guardian to manage the child’s property, or the parent can plan with a trust structure. The session compared the two side by side.

Week 2. What to do after the court appoints you estate administrator

18 June 2026. Many administrators receive the court order and do not know the next step. Aphiwat Bualoi set out the ten duties every estate administrator must know.

Week 3. Checking the mental capacity of the person making a will

25 June 2026. A frequent challenge to a will in court is the claim that the testator lacked mental capacity, most often with elderly clients. The session covered how a lawyer can assess and record capacity when the will is made.

Week 4. What estate planning means in legal practice

2 July 2026. Estate planning is more than writing a will. This session looked at the whole picture and the lawyer’s role in it.

Week 5. The draft Trust for Personal Asset Management Act

9 July 2026. Thailand does not yet have a general law for private trusts. A draft act is now under discussion. Participants read the draft together and discussed what it could change for families.

Week 6. Lasting Power of Attorney in other countries

23 July 2026. Many of the firm’s foreign clients already hold a Lasting Power of Attorney from their home country. The session compared the LPA with the ordinary Thai power of attorney and what it means for a client living in Thailand.
