Notary in Chiang Mai
If you need a document notarised in Chiang Mai, I can help, usually on the same day.
A 33 second look at what happens when you bring us a document to notarise.
You have a document that has to be used in another country, and somebody there has told you it must be notarised. I am a registered Notarial Services Attorney in Chiang Mai, and I can certify your signature or certify that a copy is a true copy of the original, usually on the same day you walk in.
We are on Huay Kaew Road, opposite Kad Rincome and MAYA, on the third floor of the Siriphanich Building. There is free parking.

Notary Chiang Mai
Does Thailand have an apostille yet?
Not yet. Thailand joined the 1961 Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026, and it is due to take effect for Thailand on 28 February 2027.
Until that date nothing has changed. A Thai document going abroad still needs three steps. First the notarisation or the translation. Then legalisation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Then legalisation by the embassy of the country the document is going to.
From 28 February 2027 an apostille will replace the embassy step for documents going to other Convention countries. It does not replace the notarisation. That first step is the same before and after.
Updated 26 August 2026.
What is a Notarial Services Attorney?
Thailand does not have notaries public in the way that England, Australia or the United States do. Instead the Lawyers Council of Thailand registers practising lawyers as Notarial Services Attorneys, and only a lawyer who holds that registration may certify signatures and documents for use abroad.
I am registered under the Lawyers Council regulation of B.E. 2566, and my certificate is displayed in the office.
What documents can you notarise?
These are the ones people bring us most often.
Documents for a visa application, where the embassy has asked for a notarised
copy or a notarised signature.
A copy of a passport, for a bank or a broker in another country.
A power of attorney, so that somebody at home can act for you while you are in
Thailand.
A life certificate, sometimes called a proof of life, for a foreign pension
office.
An affidavit, or a statement made on oath.
A copy of any document, certified as a true copy of the original.
A signature on a contract or a property document that is going abroad.
A copy of a university degree or a school certificate.
Company documents that another country has asked to see.
If your document is not on this list, bring it in anyway. It takes a minute to
tell you whether it is something we can do.
How much does a notary cost in Chiang Mai?
The fee depends on the document and on how many signatures or copies are involved. We charge Thai clients and foreign clients the same rate.
How long does it take?
Most documents are done the same day. If you come in the morning with the document and your passport, you will normally leave with it finished.
Where the document also needs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and an embassy after us, that part is out of our hands and takes longer. We will tell you what to expect before you start.
What should I bring?
The document itself, and your passport.
If somebody abroad has told you what they need, bring that message or letter as well. It is often the quickest way to work out which kind of certification is being asked for, because the wording people use for this varies from country to country.
Can you certify documents in English?
Yes. We work in Thai and in English, and the certification is issued in English where the receiving country needs it in English.

Where are you, and is there parking?
Room 3i, third floor, Siriphanich Building, 191 Huay Kaew Road, Suthep, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai 50200.
We are directly across the road from Kad Rincome and MAYA. Nimman Road starts at the same corner. From the Old Town it is about 20 minutes by car.
There is plenty of parking at the building and it is free.
