Internationally Recognized in Thailand Will and Probate Law

Aphiwat Bualoi Law Office has recently been recognized on the international stage through three significant milestones in Singapore and Malaysia — reflecting our commitment to excellence in Thai wills, estate planning, and probate law.

Knowledge Exchange AEPA (Asia Estate Planning Association), Singapore

As a member of the Asia Estate Planning Association (AEPA), Mr. Aphiwat was invited to meet and exchange knowledge with the AEPA Board of Directors in Singapore. This engagement with leading estate planning professionals across Asia including AEPA President Mr. Allen Lim deepened our expertise in cross-border estate planning and reinforced our focus in Thai wills and estate administration.

Guest Speaker at AIA Wealth Center, Singapore

Mr. Aphiwat was invited by SmartWills Singapore to deliver a lecture on Thai inheritance and will law to financial advisors at AIA Wealth Center, Singapore. The session was a rich exchange of knowledge between Thai and Singaporean legal and financial professionals, highlighting the differences between Thailand’s civil law system and Singapore’s common law heritage and the unique estate planning tools each system offers.

MOU Signed SmartWills Partnership, Kuala Lumpur

Aphiwat Bualoi Law Office has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SmartWills, founded by Mr. Dylan Ng, to launch smartwills Thailand, an intelligent online will platform for Thailand. Signed in Kuala Lumpur in the presence of investors, lawyers, and financial advisors from across Southeast Asia, this partnership will allow clients to complete a legally sound Thai will in as little as 15–20 minutes. The platform will serve Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.

A Father’s Final Gift: A Will That Crossed Borders and Barriers

In 2020, I met an American man who was living in a care home in Chiang Mai. He wanted to make a will to leave his condo in Thailand to his son. I helped him draft the will properly under Thai law. Just four months later, he passed away. It was during the Covid situation, so it was very hard to complete the probate, but in the end we managed to finish everything. This was one of my first probate cases and it made me feel that estate planning is really meaningful, especially for families who live far apart.

A Will, a Camera, and a Brother’s Last Wish

In 2021, I helped a bedridden Australian man in Chiang Mai who wanted to change his will and give everything to his long-lost brother instead of the previous beneficiary. I happened to bring my camera and recorded a video during the will signing. Six months later, he passed away. After that, the previous beneficiary tried to challenge the will in court, but we won. The judge said it was clear from the video that he truly wanted to give everything to his brother. This case taught me that doing a will properly and keeping good evidence can protect the client’s real wish, even when others disagree.

A Familiar Face, a Fair Fee, and a Final Wish Fulfilled

An Italian man came to me for will advice about two years before his passing. He already had a public will, so I gave him guidance and didn’t expect to hear from him again. Then one day, his wife walked into my office and said her husband had just died. I recognized her instantly. I helped her through the probate process with my standard fee. Later, she told me her colleague paid over 200,000 baht to another firm but got no results for months. This case reminded me why we say ซื่อกินไม่หมด คดกินไม่นาน. Honest work lasts. Dishonest gain never does.

When a Legacy Becomes a Gift to the World

A Thai-French couple with no children came to me to prepare their wills. They owned many pieces of land and several houses across Thailand. Instead of passing it all to relatives, they decided to give more than half of their estate to charity. I helped them organize their assets clearly and made sure the legal structure would protect their wishes.
