We Signed an MOU with SmartWills in Kuala Lumpur: Thai Wills in 15 Minutes Are Coming

A new partnership that will make will writing faster and more accessible in Thailand and across Southeast Asia

What Happened in Kuala Lumpur

Our office recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SmartWills, which is a company founded by Dylan Ng that provides online will writing and estate executor services. The signing took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with investors, lawyers, and financial advisors from across Southeast Asia present as witnesses.

This partnership will lead to the launch of smartwills.co.th, which will be an online platform where people can create a proper Thai will. The goal is to make the whole process take around 15 to 20 minutes.

Why People Keep Delaying Their Will

One thing I see a lot in my practice is people who know they should write a will but keep putting it off. When I ask why, the answer is usually something like: it sounds complicated, or I do not know where to start, or I will do it later.

To be honest, in the past the process was slow. Getting a proper will done required consultations, document drafts, back and forth review, and a signing appointment. That could take days or weeks.

The SmartWills platform is designed to fix that. By guiding people through a structured process with professional legal review built in, the time from starting to finished draft should be under 20 minutes. The document will still be legally valid under Thai law. It is just faster and easier to reach that point.

This Works Across the Region, Not Only Thailand

The platform is not only for Thailand. The plan covers Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Thailand together. For people who have assets in more than one of these countries, this is very useful.

Each country has its own rules about what makes a will valid. The SmartWills system is being built with those differences in mind, so the output matches the legal requirements of whichever country the user is in.

I think this is the direction that legal services in Southeast Asia need to go. Technology making access faster, while professional oversight makes sure the result is actually correct.

For Lawyers and Financial Advisors Too

One thing worth mentioning is that this platform is not only for individual clients. It is also designed as a tool that lawyers and financial advisors can use together with their clients. That is important because a will should not be done completely alone without any guidance.

Our office will be using the SmartWills platform as part of how we help clients write their wills. The technology handles the speed. We handle the professional review and proper execution.

Thank you to Dylan Ng and the SmartWills team for trusting us with this partnership. And thank you to my own office team who worked very hard to make this signing happen. I look forward to sharing more about smartwills.co.th when it is ready to launch.
